Dear Parents / Carers
It has been a while since our last newsletter and the nursery has been as busy as ever!
The Father’s Day Breakfast was a huge success, and luckily the weather held out, so the children and their Dads could enjoy breakfast ‘Al Fresco!’ On 4th July we held the Graduation celebration for the 14 children leaving to attend primary school this year. It was an emotional afternoon as we looked back over all the children’s amazing achievements and wished them well for the future. They had a fantastic time with fun activities, a tea party with a special graduation cake and even a piñata!
Curriculum
Robins and Blackbirds
Throughout the summer, Robins and Blackbirds have been busy enjoying the beautiful weather in the garden, learning all about summer, holidays, safety in the sun as well as cooling off in the sprinklers.
Our school leavers have been working very hard preparing for starting school in September. The team have been supporting them by focusing on independence and resilience through transitions and self-care and using the Jolly Phonics songs to engage the children in letters and sounds, as well as practising their writing skills. They learnt a lot about what to expect at big school. Our focus activities remain diverse and engaging; giving the children the opportunity to spend time with their immediate peer group, learning and experiencing new activities. Tracey has spent the summer introducing the children to growing their own fruit and vegetables in the garden, discovering and identifying insects and mini-beasts and even extending the children’s imagination to create a beautiful Fairy Garden.
During Music and Movement, Nicola has been encouraging the children to use their listening skills, follow directions, work as a team and move expressively. To reinforce our focus on health and independence, we have been using a wide range of fruit and vegetables during our cooking sessions with Megan, to allow the children to touch, smell, taste and cook freely with the ingredients. We have made everything from home-made hummus to vegetable tarts and enjoying these treats for tea or snack times. Cherise has been leading our science programme; supporting the children to become independent and curious learners. Together they have learnt about friction, experimented with light and shadow, explored weight and quantity, as well as enjoying dramatic volcano chemical reactions!
As the new term begins we sadly say goodbye to our school leavers, but we also welcome new friends; Emma, Noah, Luke and Jacob. During this term we are adding some new focus activities. Nicola will be leading investigation into culture, diversity and religion in ‘Around the World’ and Kelly will be taking ‘Big Art!’ The children will be encouraged to be free with their creativity, using recycled and natural materials, and taking inspiration from different cultures and group interests such as dinosaurs, seasons or pirates.
